Gold Lion - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys

The Touch of Her Skin - Jim & Jules

Okay, okay, I get the message, you’re all incredibly angry with me for being gone for so long, but I’ve been filming under strict NDA! And if you see any pictures of me on Perez Hilton, just pretend you didn’t see them, okay? So embarrassing…

Life has been interesting, to say the least. Lucy being here made the world of difference, and I’ve finally started to feel like LA is home, kind of. I don’t think it’ll ever be home like Toronto or even London felt, but I’ve made my peace with it. Plus, I can’t really complain about the weather…

Let’s talk about some music! I’ve painstakingly made sure I’m not covering anything both on the show and on the blog, so don’t worry, there will be no NDA breaking or getting sued here. Just me and you talking about some great tunes, not of today.

First up, this one might be controversial in the comments, but can we just talk about Clap Your Hands Say Yeah? I’m highlighting their single Is This Love, but everything I’ve heard from this band has been a revelation to me. I know some people are turned off by Alec Ounsworth’s voice, and I know what they mean, but for whatever reason, it doesn’t bother me. It’s this facet of his music that makes him unique, so Alec, if you ever read this blog, I salute you, sir. It’s a certified bop in this girl’s opinion.

And it wouldn’t be a Chuck blog without some Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Gold Lion is their latest track, and of course, it hits just like every one of their songs. Karen O, please come on my show! It’d be such a dream to interview one of my fave bands of this era, and really, of all time.

We’ve also got a strong newcomer this year in British band Arctic Monkeys. They’re from Sheffield, England, and have the accents to prove it. You all know how I love an accent. I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor is one of the breakouts from earlier this year, and I can’t stop listening to it. These guys are gonna make a splash, if you ask me. Can’t wait to see what they do next.

And of course, if we’re talking about Northern British bands, we can’t not talk about Jim & Jules’s sophomore album The Touch of Her Skin. This album gave me chills I haven’t felt since I first listened to Jeff Buckley’s Grace.  The record focuses on a singular muse for most of the tracks, with lyrics that cut me right to the bone, blended in with that signature brash style, moody basslines, and the gritty vocals of Grayson William.

Track Eight is notably the standout, and I have to admit, I cried like a baby after listening to it. If you’re listening to just one album this year, do yourself a favour and make it The Touch of Her Skin. It absolutely gutted me.

I’m going to try to be more active this year, now that I’ve figured out my filming schedule and this wild new life in LA. You might see some… unflattering photos of me on some tabloids, but rest assured, I’m still the same girl I was back in the day blogging from my high school dorm room.

And thank you for the letters. Even if some of them were just to yell at me about my absence or tell me I’m a sell-out, I read each and every single one of them.

Please, never stop writing about me.
