Over the last year, I've finished three feature screenplays and a novel, and I did it using a spreadsheet system to plot out all the story elements ahead of time. This worked for me because it allowed me to solve story problems before drafting, so that by the time I'm actually writing, I'm focusing on the best way to tell the story.
I've been asked a few times to share the process, so I've made two resources for anyone interested, as well as a detailed guide for exactly how to use them.
